Te Awa Wines

The Te Awa Collection offers some stunning wines from Hawkes Bay, from the sub-region of Gimblett Gravels, in particular. The phrase ‘Te Awa o Te Atua’ means ‘the river of God’ - a reference to the mysterious subterranean streams that flow underneath the vineyards. These streams are helped by the stony, alluvial free-draining soils in Gimblett Gravels. The 150 hectare Te Awa site is situated on the dried up trail of the Ngaruroro River, which changed its course after a flood in 1867.


Warm temperatures, low rainfall, and gravel soils create a wonderful blend of balance and texture in the Te Awa wines, and they have a real terroir specific expression. 


The Gimblett Gravels region is famed for its heavier, full-bodied rustic style reds, and we have the Te Awa Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo and Syrah, good examples of some of the very best wines that Hawkes Bay can deliver!
