Burn Cottage 'Valli Vineyard' Pinot Noir 2019
Vintage Notes: A very good season for growth, with the region experiencing periods of rain regularly. Some drier more classic Central Otago spells experienced in January and February, and healthy plants were vibrant and strong throughout the season. Overall the seasons temperatures were moderate, which preserved wonderful balance and acidity towards the end of the season.
The Valli Vineyard had a lot of small bunches and berries this year and we picked slightly early for the Gibbston region to preserve these.
Winemaker Tasting Notes: One of our dear friends in Central Otago is Grant Taylor, the former winemaker of Gibbston Valley Vineyards and proprietor of Valli Vineyards, one of the great producers of Central Otago. Grant is an iconic figure in Central, equally beloved for his wonderful wines and his quick wit. In 2013 we decided that it would be great fun to swap grapes from each other’s estate vineyard and make the wines, with each of us vineyard designating the result, and this is the sixth year of our collaboration doing so. In our view, there is no finer vineyard in the Gibbston region than Grant’s. The professionalism, care and love which go into the management of this site are exemplary.
The 2019 Burn Cottage Valli Vineyard displays bright red fruits, rosehip, wild thyme, florals and spice. A wonderful savoury intensity with elegance and suppleness through the palate. Mineral
and layered, it is deliciously approachable now but will also reward cellaring: 7 to 10 years.
