Clos Marguerite is one of the most consistent top performers in the Awatere Valley, a Marlborough subregion that fared well in the rain-affected 2017 vintage. It has typical cool-climate characters that make Awatere Valley sauvignon so distinctive: green capsicum, nettle, gooseberry and subtle chalky flavours. The wine has a pleasing texture and richness together with an ethereal texture and a lingering finish.
5 STARS: Well worth discovering, this estate-grown, Awatere Valley wine was mostly handled in tanks; 12% was barrel-fermented. Full of personality, it is weighty and fleshy, with generous, vibrant, ripely herbaceous flavours, slightly minerally notes, and a lasting, bone-dry finish.
