It was the affectionate nickname for local businessman and entrepreneur Howard Patterson, a man who changed the face of New Zealand agriculture, and the visionary who first recognised the potential for vineyards in the rugged Waitaki region.
Their wines, a Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and a Pinot Noir, are produced by Forrest wines in Marlborough. They are full of freshness and a distinct minerality that sums up the wild Waitaki landscape.
