Amisfield Sauvignon Blanc 2025 is a dry, intensely aromatic white from Central Otago, with a gorgeous streak of lemon and lime. It was rated 92 POINTS by Rebecca Gibb MW at Vinous, who praises its "razorlike clarity". This is a loverly wine for anyone who likes zesty whites with real purity.

In the glass expect aromas of jasmine tea and pink grapefruit layered through the citrus.

This is a wine for those of us who enjoy an aromatic white with some weight on the palate. This wine would pair well with fresh oysters and seafood.

What it tastes like

This wine has an intense bouquet and a fleshy palate, balanced by underlying minerality.  Rebecca Gibb MW described it as dry and bright, with excellent purity and tension. She noted a tangy grapefruit finish and applauded its concentration and vigour.

Who makes it

Amisfield was established in 1988 by John Darby in the early days of Central Otago winegrowing.

The estate is a 93-hectare single estate vineyard beneath Mount Pisa, certified organic by BioGro New Zealand.

For the 2025 vintage, the fruit came from Block 8 on the upper terrace of the vineyard. It was picked over approximately 1 month, with the picking dates chosen to suit the flavour profile and style Amisfield desire in there Sauvignon Blanc style.

About the vintage

Wine writer Joelle Thomson reported an early November frost during flowering in Central Otago that caused minor losses, although excellent weather during flowering ensured good fruit set.

The season was dry, with cool nights and warm days and no extreme hot or cool periods. Picking proceeded at a measured pace. Yields were comparable to 2024 and 2023, marginally reduced by frost, and she noted acidity levels that support longevity.

"Dry, bright and vibrantly youthful, the 2025 Sauvignon Blanc offers excellent purity and tension. It's aromatic in style but offers razorlike clarity, with elderflower, pineapple and passion fruit giving way to a tangy grapefruit finish. I applaud its concentration and vigour."
